This year, so far, provides an excellent example of what the sages have referred to as “interesting times.” Some strong winds are stirring our little world–spinning us around, raising dust spectres, threatening us with violence, poverty, oppression, and even death; but also blowing down rotten old structures that we’re so much better off without. These interesting times are sure to continue for a while, and will test the limits of our patience, our ability to adapt to new circumstances, keep our wits about us, avoid superstition, and hold on to the long view. But one day, my friends, not too far in the future, we will banquet together again, and toast to each other’s health, and to the ones we have loved and lost.
